How to Measure your Dog for a Harness
For the best fit measure the girth of the dog, wrap a tape measure around the upper body of the dog and under the front legs. Girth will always take priority when selecting the size for a harness and all harnesses have different measurements. Each of our harness pages have a size chart you can measure against. You can also visit our guide on how to put on a dog harness.
Considerations:
1. Fitted correctly the harness should be snug on the dog and not too tight.
2. When measuring your dog for a harness, it's crucial to get accurate measurements of the girth, neck, and length.
- Girth: Measure around the widest part of your dog's chest, typically just behind the front legs. This is the most important measurement for a good fit.
- Neck: Measure around the base of your dog's neck where a collar would naturally sit.
- Length: Measure from the base of the neck to the base of the tail.
3. How tight should a dog harness be?
You should be able to insert two fingers (but only two!) between the harness and your dog, just like with a collar.
