Patches with purpose: Debunking Greyhound Adoption Myths and Celebrating Foster Care

Patches with purpose: Debunking Greyhound Adoption Myths and Celebrating Foster Care

In the world of dog racing, there are countless Greyhounds like Freddie who, after suffering injuries, find themselves in foster care. However, behind the myths and misconceptions surrounding Greyhound adoption lies a heartwarming truth: these gentle and affectionate dogs make incredible companions. In this blog post, we delve into the realities of Greyhound adoption and shed light on the valuable role of foster care. We also introduce an innovative initiative using our Custom Patches to help these Greyhounds find their forever homes.

Myth: Greyhounds are not easy to have in a domestic home.

Contrary to popular belief, Greyhounds acclimate quickly to family life once they are surrendered by breeders. Despite their upbringing in racing kennels and limited exposure to a broader world, these dogs are remarkably adaptable. Freddie, for instance, greeted everyone at our office with a smile and appreciative gestures. With the love, care and nourishment provided by a forever home, these Greyhounds become loyal and affectionate companions.

Myth: Racing Greyhounds require excessive exercise.

It’s a common misconception that racing Greyhounds need extensive exercise. In reality, they require the same amount of physical activity as any other dog: a 20-30 minute walk daily is enough to keep them thriving and happy. While they may possess excellence in speed and agility on the track, Greyhounds are content with moderate exercise and cherish quality time spent with their human companions.

Fact: Greyhound rehoming has significantly decreased.

Sadly, Greyhound rehoming has experienced a decline over the past three years. To highlight and help with this issue, we have used a unique approach using our Custom Patches. We provided Freddie with an 'Adopt Me' patch, which he proudly wears during his walks. Our hope is that this visual cue will catch the attention of potential adopters, enabling Freddie to find his forever home. Additionally, we are offering a 30% rebate on our products to anyone who commits to providing a forever home for a retired Greyhound.

Fact: Foster care plays a vital role in Greyhound adoption.

Foster parenting is not exclusively reserved for challenging dogs. The Greyhound Rehoming Association often utilises foster care to assess the personalities of new members and determine the most suitable homes for them. This transitional period helps both the Greyhound and their adopting family to ensure a smooth adjustment and a successful adoption.

Greyhound adoption is an opportunity to provide a loving home to these very special dogs and debunk the myths surrounding their suitability as domestic pets. Despite their racing backgrounds, Greyhounds quickly adapt to family life and become loyal companions. Foster care serves as a crucial stepping stone in the rehoming process, allowing these dogs to acclimate to a domestic environment while aiding the adoption process. Through our 'Adopt Me' patch initiative and product rebate, we here at EzyDog aim to increase awareness and support for Greyhound adoption in Australia by embracing the truth about Greyhounds and celebrating the power of foster care. Small gestures like these can make a significant difference in their lives and find forever homes for these deserving (and adorable) companions.

We offer a 30% rebate on our products when you commit to rehoming a retired Greyhound via the below certified Association. Click Here to contact us for more information on this.

Please provide us with an adoption certificate as proof, it must be adopted from June 2023.
